Profile
Dr. Egan is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and a Psychoanalyst for children, adolescents, and adults and work in the Child and Adolescent Outpatient Department at Children's Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre, as well as in private practice. For many years acted as Psychotherapy Lead for the General Psychiatry Residency Program at Western University.
He attended medical school at Western University, completed a Family Medicine Residency at the University of Manitoba and then returned to Western to complete my residency in psychiatry. He subsequently completed Adult Psychoanalytic Training, at the Toronto Institute of Psychoanalysis and Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Training with the Canadian Institute of Psychoanalysis, Quebec English branch (Montreal). He is a graduate of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Sub-specialty Program at Western University.
Dr. Egan has a strong interest in working with preschool and school aged children and their families, supervising students in psychodynamic psychotherapy and teaching case formulation and treatment planning using a strong bio psychosocial and developmental perspective. He believes that the pivotal part of both the assessment and treatment process in psychiatry is understanding the psychological structure of the patient, their affect and personality, which can be only developed when we take a genuine interest in the patient's life and experiences.
